The neighborhood streets and alleys are shining thanks to many neighbors who volunteered their time and energy on Saturday May 8th. Over 45 people met at Great Oak Commons for The Old Northside Neighborhood annual spring clean-up event. We were thrilled with the turnout and the beautiful weather.
The coffee was gone before 10am and the donut sugar rush was appreciated. Thank you to our neighbors who sponsored the treats and coffee. A special thanks to Rob Measel and The Rob Measel Team for Platt Collective.
Groups worked in teams to collect trash, pick up lawn debri, report potholes, clogged drains and move large trash items to the dumpster. The award for grossest large item goes to the stained mattress! Overall there were 9,000 lbs of street debri and 50 trash bags dumped by the end of the afternoon.
Thank you to our truck drivers who lead the five team zones including Peter Jerkowitz, Nate Riecke, Wes Lackey, Phil Horner, and Kyle Robinson. The street clean up would not have been possible without the help of Travis and Hilary Barnes owners of Hotel Tango. Thank you for donating the use of the front loader tractor and the F550 truck. The dumping trailer and notorious Wheel Horse were donated by the Chastain Family. The 9,000 lbs capacity trailer was full by the afternoon. The Mayor, Joe Hoggsett, stopped by to thank neighbors for their efforts with the clean-up. There is more work to be done but this event was a great start. Please report any additional potholes, streetlights, trash, and storm drain issues to the Mayor’s Action Center online. Every bit helps.
There were many new neighbors that volunteered for their first clean up and it was nice to see so many new faces. Many neighbors also gave a financial donation for not being able to attend the event and to help support the cost of the equipment rental, gas, and stump removal. Special thanks to our new neighbor Michael Phillips with Valeo Financial Advisors for donating $1,000.00 to the cause.
Mr. Mayor our Streets are clean!
