The Old Northside was aglow again this holiday season with the second annual A Winter’s Light holiday celebration. The culmination was a luminary walk on Sunday, December 12, rescheduled from a few days earlier due to rain. The weather was perfect as neighbors bundled up and took to the streets to experience the beauty of the holiday season with luminaries lining the streets and holiday lights strung from rooftops and trees.
The evening offered the perfect opportunity to judge all of the contestants in the 2021 Holiday Lights competition, won in a neighborhood vote by Rob Measel and Paul Wasson with their home’s twinkling roofline and trees, glowing orbs, and festive treats for passersby. In second place just down the street, Kurt and Kate Flock dazzled with lights and ornaments to which many compared to the infamous Chevy Chase movie “Christmas Vacation”.
Rounding out the festivities was a new A Winter’s Light seasonal candle showcasing the new ONS branding and created by master candlemakers Penn and Beech: A few of these delightful candles (and other ONS gear) are still available at oldnorthside.org/onsswag.
The entire event raised just under $4,000 for the Old Northside Foundation for the upkeep of two of the most important neighborhood assets—Shawn Grove Park and Great Oaks Common. Soon we will see that money in action with ongoing park improvements.
Special thanks to the ONS marketing and social committees for their hard work in bringing this event to life. If you have interest in volunteering for these or other committees, there are many ways to get involved in 2022, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
